Asking Men to Roll in Jiu Jitsu

I think most women at one point or another have been intimidated being in a room filled with mostly men - especially when you've recently started and you have to ask the guys to roll. How do we navigate this? What happens if they say no? Here's my two cents :) Let's be friends! Instagram : @kimberlyannkinch TikTok : kimmymuck Let's work together! Email : kimberlyakinch@gmail.com

    I am thankful I found your page! Thank you for sharing your story. My surgery is tomorrow. I too am very active and had pretty much gotten back full mobility after the accident and I will be starting from scratch tomorrow. How many weeks was it after you tore your hamstring that you had surgery? My surgeon doesn't use a brace afterwards, but your experience of wearing the brace makes me want one...to feel more secure post surgery. What type of brace did you have?

    Tips when rolling with guys 1. Be mindful of our balls 2. Dont go 100% when we’re going 30% 3. Most of us are socially awkward af, please forgive our “Scaring The Hoes” type vibe we’re giving off as we’re uncomfortable around u 4. Remember we’re letting u work; u might get some subs on us (cuz we let u) 5. Remember, ur here to also defend urself. In a real fight against a male adversary there’s no stop using strength or lets start on the ground Ideally, everyone should roll/talk w everyone. Unfortunately we’re still in this taboo period where A LOT of ppl dont roll nor talk to the opposite sex I been training at my bjj gym for 2 years, there’s females there tht i have literally never spoken to

  • @sillysausage4549
    @sillysausage4549 6 днів тому

    I read that a guy is typically 30% stronger than a woman of the SAME weight, so if you factor in the extra lean weight men typically carry, you are looking at a huge disparity. I doubt that even the most thuggish guy ever uses anything like his full strength against a female parther, although it might seem to her that he is.

      yes, totally fine now! Back to training jiu jitsu - I’m still careful but I don’t feel limited. It’ll be 2 years in September (so crazy!!). I would say the only thing I really feel is soreness more easily, compared to the other side. But it goes away after a good night sleep to recover :) Have you had this surgery??

    From a males perspective, I’ve been training a long time and some of the most technical roles I’ve had have been with women. So don’t let yourself think that you don’t have value when rolling with bigger stronger opponents

But i dont want to cut out anything as it will only cause stress for me on the day. Majority of guests are travelling from other parts of the country so cant rope them in to help. Not sure its something ill be able to justify the cost of 😔

    Thanks. I do wish you'd talked about how to properly pick up and release the dumbbells, because they're often super heavy and difficult to pick up with just one hand, making me worried also that I'm putting the wrong kind of pressure on my back or knees. For releasing, I often find the DB to land a bit too close to my feet for comfort... That's when training with the heaviest weights I can, which I have not seen any demonstration video do even though most programs recommend RPE of 8 to 10 (close to failure, which implies heavy weights).

    There are beautiful disposable event dinnerware out there. Using disposable creates more need for cleanup versus bussing/washing/packing or paying extra and bussing/packing moderately food-free dishes to be washed by provider. There's always a trade off with choices.

    I have a question. I'm new to BJJ. My coach or Sifu does mixed Marshall Arts and he is a black belt with 13 yr of Jiu-jitsu. He just started doing Jiu-jitsu classes with one day a week. He does Carlson Gracie style. I would like to train more and there is a BJJ by my house but it is Carlos Gracie. If you train two different styles or names will that affect my training? Or should I just stick to one school one style?

I am glad to see women train tho-good for you guys-fitness is good and BJJ is good for fitness. Here is my question to YOU: if up until recently you felt uncomfortable training with men why would you choose to start a martial art that is always going to be mostly men? have a great day and i hope youre still training sinc ethis video is 3 years old

    I’m currently going through an injury now. I have severe sciatic pain that started from the piriformis. I’m trying to let the inflammation go down and let the body heal as much as possible but it has been very difficult to sleep at night, walk, lie down or sit . Sometimes the pain is so severe that I cry at night and my back goes into spasm so I’m finding this very difficult to deal with as I’m pretty much stuck, unable to do any normal day to day activities 😢 Thank you for this video. Several people have contracted tuberculosis from raw milk, in our lifetime, this isn't just some folk tale story I'm telling to scare people off. How do we feel about crock pot life? Put your meal together before you leave and it’s ready when you come home. I have been making a roast on Sundays (Mississippi roast) with roasted potatoes and carrots and then I just heat those leftovers up in glass containers in the toaster over at 350 so when I get home from jits I pop in my meal I’m the oven. A side salad is easy to throw on the plate too. Making a big pot of rice on Sundays with 2 full racks of pork ribs I have also done that. Put them in before church and Slow cooked them all day until dinner.

    2:40 😄 As far as I know, they are allowed to list it as 0 calories when the actual calorie content is less than 10 calories per serving. Also one serving is a quarter second long spray which is impractical. In reality one average spray probably ends up being 50-75 calories. In my opinion, best way to eat when cutting is prioritizing boiled foods. Apparently, it is also the "healthiest" way to cook meats since they won't be exposed to high temperatures. I read about it in Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon.

      Ayyy thank you!! 🔥 The song is “Bom” by Say3 I think. It’s from the sound platform that I use. We always have Brazilian funk/hiphop playing in the gym so I tried to get something similar where I wouldn’t get copyrighted lol.

    Hey Kimberly, thanks for all the videos about your recovery process. I picked up a similar injury about 2 weeks ago and I was feeling quite lost about what the next steps would be. Your videos are a gold mine. My tendons are thankfully not completely detached so my doctor is confident I will recover without surgery even though I am still looking at a 4-6 month recovery time. In my case, it was due to an inexperienced training partner trying a risky submission on me during live rolls (I think it is called Suloev Stretch), I had no time to tap and felt my hamstring pop right away - incredibly painful. Worst of all, I keep replaying the moment in my head over and over and it is causing a lot of mental stress. I feel like I don't even want to return to the mats because my trust in training safety has been shattered. Although I am sure I will get over with time. I would appreciate if you have anything to share about this matter. Thanks again for sharing your experience.

      Oh gosh I'm so sorry that you've experienced this in training! It's just awful. No one understood how much pain I was in the night it happened. I felt the same way about replaying the injury in my head. Even now if i think about it, it makes me cringe. For a long time I didn't want anything to do with jiu jitsu, mainly because I was bitter that it happened to me and it was SO hard envisioning myself doing jiu jitsu with the state that my body was in. But I still knew that ultimately the big goal was to return one day. I think if you keep it in your mind that you WILL return one day, that keeps the motivation going through all of the PT and all of the strength training that's required in order to do so. You'll know when you're ready to starting trying out some jiu jitsu movements again. Your body will feel ready. I tried at 6 months and felt pretty good, but still felt unsafe in class so I took a break again until I felt 100% ready. Take it slow, listen to your body and don't feel pressured by team mates because ultimately they don't truly know how tough it is to come back from this injury. Best of luck with your recovery!!
